Uprising was Bob Marley's final studio album, and is one of his most religious productions; it includes "Redemption Song" and "Forever Loving Jah".[60]
In July 1977, Marley was found to have a type of malignant melanoma under the nail of a toe. Contrary to urban legend, this lesion was not primarily caused by an injury during a football match that year but was instead a symptom of already-existing cancer. Marley turned down his doctors' advice to have his toe amputated (which would have hindered his performing career), citing his religious beliefs, and instead, the nail and nail bed were removed and a skin graft was taken from his thigh to cover the area.[62][63] Despite his illness, he continued touring and was in the process of scheduling a world tour in 1980.[64]
The album Uprising was released in May 1980. The band completed a major tour of Europe, where it played its biggest concert to 100,000 people in Milan. After the tour, Marley went to the United States, where he performed two shows at Madison Square Garden in New York City as part of the Uprising Tour.[65]
Marley's last concert occurred at the Stanley Theater (now called The Benedum Center For The Performing Arts) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on 23 September 1980. Just two days earlier he had collapsed during a jogging tour in Central Park and was brought to the hospital where he learned that his cancer had spread to his brain.[66]

1988 “Here I go again”  Whitesnake is the self-titled seventh studio album by British rock band of the same name, released in 1987. It produced a major power ballad hit, "Is This Love", along with the number one hit "Here I Go Again". The album was a major crossover hit eventually selling over eight million copies in the US. It peaked at No. 2 on the US Billboard 200 for ten nonconsecutive weeks, barred from the top spot by three different albums. The album remained at or near its peak position over the course of six months, from June to November, 1987. and No. 8 on the UK Albums Chart. Its success in the US boosted its predecessor, Slide It In, from gold to double platinum status and would see the band receive a nomination for the Brit Award for Best British Group in 1988.

The Spirit Of Radio

Episode 22, 1967 Rush, “The Spirit Of Radio” Permanent Waves was the seventh studio album by the Canadian rock band Rush, released in January 1980 on Anthem Records. After touring to support their previous album, Hemispheres, the band regrouped in July 1979 to work on material for a follow-up. This period marked a shift in the group's sound characterized by more concise arrangements and radio friendly songs, such as "The Spirit of Radio" and "Freewill", though their progressive rock blueprint is still evident with the ten-minute closer "Natural Science". The two former tracks were performed live before Rush entered the studio. Permanent Waves was recorded later in 1979 at Le Studio in Morin-Heights, Quebec with production handled by the group and Terry Brown.
Permanent Waves received a mostly positive reception from critics, and became the band's most successful album at the time of release, reaching No. 3 in Canada and the UK and No. 4 in the US. The album was certified platinum in the latter by the Recording Industry Association of America for selling one million copies. Rush released "The Spirit of Radio" as a single in March 1980 and toured in support of the album in 1979 and 1980.

The Carnegie Commission on Educational Television is created in 1965. On January 26, 1967 they release their report which recommends the creation of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) was founded on November 7, 1967 after the passage of the Public Broadcasting Act which was signed into law by US President Lyndon Johnson.
The Corporation for Public Broadcasting was officially incorporated on March 27, 1968.
Fred Rogers of "Mister Roger's Neighborhood" gives his famous impassioned speech asking the government not to cut funding to public television to the Senate Subcommittee on Communications on May 1, 1969.
The Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) was established by the CPB on November 3, 1969 as a commercial-free non-profit organization that would showcase educational and high-quality television programming. PBS replaces its predecessor, National Educational Television (NET) which was established in 1952.

South Africa -- Heart Transplant
The first successful human to human heart transplant takes place during December. Dr. Christiaan Barnard performed the operation on the 53-year-old patient Louis Washkansky. The operation took place at the Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa. The transplant was successful and Washkansky’s body did not reject the organ, although he did die just 18 days later due to double pneumonia brought on by the immunosuppressive drugs that he had to take. After the success, Barnard continued to perform successful heart transplants with the survival times of patients increasing gradually as technology advanced.

United Kingdom -- SS Torrey Canyon Spill
The SS Torrey Canyon supertanker ran aground off the South of England March 18th causing a large oil spill and ecological disaster. The tanker ran aground between the Land’s End and Scilly Isles and leaked over 100,000 tons of crude oil into the sea. The oil reached the coasts of the Channel Islands and France and the oil slick spanned about 270 square miles. The spill was the worst in history at that time and prompted tighter international regulations for ships.

The main purpose of the Lunar Orbiter 3 mission was to photograph the surface of the Moon in order to find and analyze potential safe landing sites for future missions in the Surveyor and Apollo programs. The cone-shaped craft also measured radiation and micro-meteoroid impact. The mission lasted for a total of 264 days and it ended in October after taking 149 medium resolution and 477 high resolution photographs.
United States -- First Cryonically Preserved Man
Dr. James H. Bedford became the first person to be cryonically preserved after his death in January . Bedford, a 73 year old psychology professor who died of kidney cancer, asked to be preserved with the hope that he could be revived in the future. He was frozen within hours of his death by the Cryonics Society of California. Robert Prehoda, Dr. Dante Brunol, Robert Nelson, and Dr. Renault Able all took part in the process, during which Bedford’s body was injected with chemicals meant to help preserve him better in cold temperatures, stored in a “cryocapsule” and kept in a bath of liquid nitrogen at -196 C. He has remained at the Alcor Life Preservation Foundation since 1982 after being transferred to several different facilities.

We are Americans first! November 4, 1979, The Iran hostage crisis was a diplomatic standoff between the United States and Iran. Fifty-two American diplomats and citizens were held hostage for 444 days from November 4, 1979, to January 20, 1981, after a group of Iranian college students belonging to the Muslim Student Followers of the Imam's Line, who supported the Iranian Revolution, took over the U.S. Embassy in Tehran.
On Tuesday morning, Iraqi supporters of Hezbollah begin storming the U.S. embassy in Baghdad. The violence escalates, with militia members attempting to enter the embassy, starting fires and damaging the outside and a reception area of the embassy. Iranians killed an American contractor, wounding many. We strongly responded, and always will. Now Iran is orchestrating an attack on the U.S. Embassy in Iraq. They will be held fully responsible. In addition, we expect Iraq to use its forces to protect the Embassy, and so notified!

The serial killer Christopher Bernard Wilder ( Beauty Queen Killer ) who went on a six-week cross-country crime spree starting in Florida on February 26, 1984 abducted and murdering his first victim Rosario Gonzalez he continued across the country through Georgia Texas, Kansas, Oklahoma, Nevada, Utah, California and New York before he was killed during a struggle with police in New Hampshire on April 13, 1984. There were 8 confirmed Murders and 12 Rapes , he is known as the Beauty Queen Killer because all the women were attractive. This is one of the first confirmed serial killers and was studied to provide insight into the minds of serial killers.

Carnival Corp and its subsidiaries have a long history of illegally dumping everything from single-use plastics to oil into the oceans they sail in. In 2017 the same subsidiary Princess Cruises pleaded guilty to illegally dumping oil from the Caribbean Princess cruise ship and intentionally trying to cover it up. Again, the fine of $40 million paid in 2017 amounted to just 0.2 percent of the $17.51 billion Carnival Corp made in 2017.
 Carnival Corporation has agreed to pay $20 million after pleading guilty to releasing food and plastic waste into the ocean off the Bahamas. Environmental groups and customers have argued that fines on the order of $20 million are not significant enough to force Carnival Corp to change its long-held dumping practices. The fine of $20 million is equivalent to just 0.1% of the $18.88 billion Carnival Corp. brought in for 2018.

A total of 146 fires are burning across the state, with 65 uncontained, according to the NSW Rural Fire Service (NSWRFS). About 2,700 firefighters were tackling the blazes on Sunday.
